Image Recovery Center Opens in Regional Cancer Center
Friday, October 21, 2005 Patients are seeing a big change as The Reading Hospital unveiled its new Image Recovery Center on Friday, October 21. Located within the Regional Cancer Center in N-Building, the Image Recovery Center is focused on assisting individuals whose appearance has been altered due to disease, treatment, or trauma. Staffed by trained professionals, the Image Recovery Center also provides appearance counseling, rehabilitation, education, and techniques for patients concerned with body image changes. Free consultations are available for patients receiving treatment in the Regional Cancer Center. The Image Recovery Center stocks items such as wigs, make-up, skin care, and prostheses. There are also licensed cosmetologists on staff. Maintaining an attractive appearance through image recovery, exercising, developing good nutritional habits, practicing relaxation techniques, and having emotional and spiritual support are all essential components to building a strong self image. The Reading Hospital Regional Cancer Center opened this month and houses the only Image Recovery Center in Pennsylvania – there are only a dozen nationwide. Image Recovery Center hours are weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, please call 610-988-4898.
