Company History

The first Image Recovery Centers® program was established at the Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland in 1993. In its infancy, all of the tools and techniques necessary to rehabilitate patients' self-esteem and appearance were transported on a mobile cart. The Image Recovery Centers® was the brainchild of Marianne Kelly, an accomplished image consultant, whose personal experience with a brain tumor in 1987, led to the program development. As a volunteer, Marianne spent the first twelve months pushing her cart which contained wigs, skin care, and mastectomy products through the hospital floors. Patients were visited in their rooms, during therapy infusions, or wherever necessary. The program was designed to be an intricate part of oncology treatment services at Union Memorial. In 1995, the Image Recovery Centers® found a permanent home in the newly constructed oncology center at Union Memorial. The Center was designed and decorated by Marianne (also trained in interior design). It exhibits a comfortable, home-like atmosphere which quickly became a "shelter in the storm" for patients undergoing treatment. In July 1996, Marianne and her husband Jerry formed Total Image Care, Inc. for the purpose of acquiring the rights to Image Recovery Centers®. To date, several Centers have been opened in the mid-Atlantic region, serving more than 4,000 cancer patients.
